The Wheel

What is "The Wheel"?

The dictionary definition of The Wheel is "an activity that involves someone being busy all the time but never achieving anything important or reaching the end of a task."

If you ask 100 people this question, you will get 100 answers.

But generally speaking, The Wheel symbolizes the never ending feeling of exasperation caused by living and working here in America, land of the hyper-driven, predatory consumeristic, over-leveraged, capitalistic system that we have been born into and programmed on.

It's the never ending race to accumulate "things", reaching for the next rung on the corporate ladder and having work like a dog until "retirement age".

It's the increasing pressure of keeping a roof over your head.

It's juggling all the things that require constant financial attention; a house, credit card debt, kids, school debt, etc.

It's having pressure, sometimes lots of pressure, so much that you can live your life in a state of chronic exhaustion.

From the hundreds of discussions we have had with people on what The Wheel means to them, we have categorized people into general buckets:

  • People who feel trapped to run on The Wheel until they limp across the retirement finish line.

  • People who want to get off, but don't know how

  • People who believe they don't have the time to figure it out

  • People who have not given it much thought, but if they did might consider drastic measures

  • People who, although they are good at running on the wheel, are at a place in their lives where they yearn for something different

  • People who either don't want to, or can't get off just yet, BUT also want to be a part of the change happening in Africa

We lead discussions about how to get off The Wheel for club members through our YouTube channel, Clubhouse platform, video chats and our newsletter, which collectively, we refer to as intel.
